Tyler Hale manages the American Public Gardens Association’s Plant Protection Program, which encompasses several projects related to plant health and significant pest detection and reporting. Tyler has worked in this role since 2016 and has overseen Sentinel Plant Network professional development workshops, Public Garden Pest Surveys, the Plant Heroes youth education program on ecosystem and forest health, and previous Plant Health adult education programs at Public Gardens across the country. Tyler also sits on the advisory board for the National Clean Plant Network for Roses as the Public Gardens representative.

Tyler has a B.S. in Natural Resources from Cornell University and an A.A.S. in Plant Science from SUNY Cobleskill. He has worked in horticulture for over 15 years, most recently as a Plant Health Specialist at Cornell Botanic Gardens and a gardener at Celia Thaxter’s Island Garden on the Isles of Shoals, Maine
