Living collections at public gardens are increasingly at risk of pest infestations and pathogen infections. This session will describe front line strategies to mitigate these risks utilizing clean nursery stock, micropropagation and cryopreservation technologies, and collaborative partnerships. Management strategies to safeguard diverse high-value collections at three leading organizations can be applicable to gardens charged as stewards of increasingly vulnerable collections. Leave with a deeper understanding of what it takes for nurseries and labs to create and preserve disease-free stock, the importance of using certified propagation material, and ideas for how to encourage disease-free industry standards.
