Jerusalem Botanical Gardens has pioneered a change in the role public gardens play in their community. A large part of their social programming is dedicated to rehabilitation programs for demographics that are specific to the geographical location: Jerusalem, Israel. Their longest-running social program is dedicated to Israeli Veterans of War who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Another successful program, The Garden Club, is geared toward providing horticulture therapy to Holocaust Survivors. Finally, vocational training in gardening for immigrants from Ethiopia is another example of a social program targeted to the current issues and population of their region. Come learn about these programs in depth as JBG encourages other gardens to create social programming dedicated to the marginalized populations unique to their geographic locations.
