Research studies have found that students enjoy learning environmental science concepts in a hands-on, active, and experiential way, and outdoor components add depth and meaning to their indoor learning activities. Washington Youth Garden (WYG), a program of Friends of the National Arboretum, has developed programs based on published research, our own participant feedback, ongoing data collection, and third party evaluation. Our garden-based programs nurture curious minds and healthy bodies by connecting children and youth to food, the land, and each other.
