When done thoughtfully, family programs can be a great way to expand your audience and visitorship, as well as increase Family Memberships and revenue. Among the topics discussed will be: a three-pronged approach to a family program (theme, tour, make-and-take), a year’s worth of winning seasonal themes, how to convert docent tours into family programs, hands-on approaches for active learning; and "maker" activities with authenticity. Alternative family program offerings, including drop-in experiences (such as Discovery Stations), camps, birthday parties, and Family Day events will also be looked at. These programs are great ways to engage families, highlight your collection, and create meaningful educational experiences with lasting memories.
