Native plant, pollinator, and habitat issues are growing more popular among the visiting public each year, but does this translate more broadly into increased nursery sales? With ecological testing ongoing to determine differences in habitat value offered to wildlife from native cultivars vs. straight species, the goal of this session is not to demonize one or the other, but to discuss how both may be seen as better alternatives and financial opportunities over the widespread use of exotic plants in the landscape. To this end we will touch on the economic, ecological, and educational ramifications of marketing and selling natives, including cultivars, hybrids, and straight species.
