Job Description 

The Arboretum is seeking a dynamic, collaborative leader for our Information Technology Department.

The Information Technology Manager will be responsible for providing technology support to Arboretum staff, visitors and customers for the Anderson Horticulture Library, Education Center, Horticultural Research Center, Horticulture & Operations Center, The Farm at the Arb and Bee Center as well as design, plan and implement the information technology plan to support the Arboretum mission. This role will include coaching and training for end users to enable them to use information and technology more efficiently.

Duties & Responsibilities 

25% - Design, plan and implement information technology plan for the MN Landscape; develop and monitor technology budget; maintain and manage the Arboretum computer network and connection to the U of M campus. Maintain a strong relationship with collegiate IT as well as University IT to ensure resources are allocated effectively.

30% - Coordinate and provide timely support to Arboretum computer and software users for the effective use of information technology. Second line of support for part-time computer assistants. Provide coaching and training to end users to enable them to use information and technology more efficiently. Provide training on specific programs, including Altru, organizational database programs, Access, etc.

30% - Plan, implement and maintain/upgrade hardware and software systems. Stay abreast with technology developments and their impact on the Arboretum; develop, update and maintain technology systems documentation. Oversee all voice and data network operations and manage specific projects to implement new technology. Develop IT procedures and controls and direct their implementation. Manage, the implementation & upgrade of the Arboretum CRM tool to Altru. Adhere to CFANS and University central I.T. data policy and procedure and assist with new website implementation according to their format.

10% - Coordinate the troubleshooting, upgrading, and training of Arboretum staff on Audio Visual Systems and design, install and manage web cameras, people counters and other technology on the Arboretum grounds.

5% - Supervise computer assistant(s) and train assistants on network, PC operations and troubleshooting.

Education and Experience 

Qualifications BA/BS in MIS, computer science or closely related field with 4 years of experience. Candidate must have experience directly administering and supporting systems in a Microsoft Active Directory environment with a minimum of 100 users. Well developed technology troubleshooting skills along with malware identification/recovery, security issues, databases and computer imaging experience also required. Must be able to train users in the effective use of hardware, software, network and audio/video equipment and must have a history of successfully interacting with the general public specifically the Arboretum's visitors and customers.
