The Polly Hill Arboretum (PHA) on the island of Martha’s Vineyard is seeking a full-time Educational Coordinator. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of PHA’s adult and youth education programs, including overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all programs concurrent with the development of a yearly schedule of educational events and the development of curricula and supporting materials for our youth education program. Additional duties include managing partnerships and collaborations related to all educational programs and developing an annual operating plan and budget. The applicant must be comfortable with public speaking and have excellent oral and written communication skills. The position supervises a part-time youth education employee as well as trains volunteers as guides and teaching assistants.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with studies in the area of horticulture, natural science, public garden administration, and/or education preferred. Work experience in the areas of non-profits and education is desirable, in particular, previous experience at a botanic garden or arboretum. Knowledge of woody and herbaceous plants desired but not required. The position requires occasionally working weekends and weeknights.
