The North Carolina Botanical Garden (NCBG - https://ncbg.unc.edu/) is hiring a public programs coordinator. NCBG furthers the mission of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill of teaching, research, and public service through its mission: “To inspire understanding, appreciation, and conservation of plants and to advance a sustainable relationship between people and nature.” The North Carolina Botanical Garden has been a leader in native plant conservation and education in the southeastern United States for more than 50 years.
The public programs coordinator works within the education department under the supervision of the director of education and is charged with coordinating day-to-day operations with an emphasis on people, processes, functions, and logistics including:
• coordinating the development and implementation of high quality adult education programs and certificate programs;
• curating and overseeing development and updates of adult tour outlines (subject matter);
• training adult tour volunteers so they have the knowledge and skills to lead the tours;
• managing and maintaining all aspects of education department scheduling, registration, and general coordination of all NCBG classes, certificate programs, courses, lectures, workshops, educational conferences, special events, and more;
• managing program outcomes and evaluation data; and
• other duties and responsibilities as defined in the job posting.
The position is Part-Time Permanent (32 hours per week) and is eligible to receive the University contribution to the employee’s health insurance premiums.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment and one year of experience that demonstrates possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of curriculum development and teaching methods for adult audiences and the ability to plan and prepare education programs, presentations, and tour outlines, ensuring appropriate content and education level, is required. Candidates must also be able to develop and manage adult education programs into implementation and program evaluation as well as have some experience teaching and/or providing tours for adult audiences.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to the North Carolina Botanical Garden’s mission, is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and can be flexible within a changing environment of programming and scope of responsibilities. Additionally, the ideal candidate is able to handle multiple events and activities and possesses excellent customer-service and interpersonal communication skills.
Advanced computer literacy as well as strong management, problem-solving/analytical and organizational skills are essential to the position as well as proven written and verbal communication abilities.
