Position type: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Non-exempt under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Description: This is a record keeping and horticultural support position responsible for accurately maintaining the botanical garden’s inventory of plants through database management and careful mapping. The Plant Recorder is also responsible for creating display labels for the garden’s plants, as well as other items as needed.
Essential Functions: Supervises and implements the electronic and paper records of plants, maps, and blueprints. Assists with the identification of plants, manages the labeling of all plants. Generates reports as needed. Manages the accessions and de-accessions of all plants. Surveys and maps the garden. Maintains records of all memorial benches and the garden’s permanent art collection.
Essential Physical Functions: The position requires sitting for long periods of time and regularly requires walking on paved and unpaved surfaces, bending, stooping, twisting and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. This position requires the ability to use typical office equipment for daily operations such as a computer, mouse, camera, telephone and radio.
Reports to: Director of Horticulture
Salary range: $37,000 to $45,000 annually

Specific Job Responsibilities:
Coordinates the plant records through inventory, accessioning, de-accessioning, mapping and labeling.
Operates IrisBG, GPS and other field mapping tools, engraving machine, and supervises the input of collection data.
Prepares label lists, verifies the accuracy of the labels and supervises the mounting and installation of labels.
Prepares reports as requested.
Inventories, maintains, and files blueprints, site maps, and other documentation.
Performs other tasks as assigned including garden-wide events.
Education and Experience: College degree preferred in Horticulture, Inventory Management, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Mapping Information Technology, or other closely related fields. Knowledge of plant taxonomy and botanical nomenclature is also preferred. Experience with CAD programs, IrisBG or other plant databases is preferred. Should be familiar with coordinate systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS). This position requires a person who has a high degree of self-motivation, excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
