Job Description:
As the Summer Intern you will join Newton Cemetery & Arboretum’s team of industry professionals in the daily care and stewardship of a historic landscape, accredited arboretum, and active cemetery. You will be immersed in a learning environment where you will learn all aspects of managing high quality turf grass on the Cemetery’s 100 acre grounds. You will also gain experience working with grounds management and expert industry consultants on projects such as pond restoration and long-term irrigation planning. In addition to working directly with the Cemetery’s turf manager, this internship will provide an opportunity to learn from other grounds management professionals, such as the Cemetery arborist, horticulturist, and greenhouse manager; and will include field trips to other grounds and turf management facilities in the Boston area. The internship will build a strong skill set for a career in any area of the turf and grounds management industry.

About Newton Cemetery & Arboretum- The historic Newton Cemetery & Arboretum is located at 791 Walnut Street in Newton, MA just west of Boston. An active cemetery and accredited arboretum, it is a non- profit Massachusetts Corporation founded in 1855 and governed by an elected board of trustees. Its mission is to operate and maintain a garden-type cemetery into the indefinite future for people of all faiths. Salary: $17/hour plus overtime

Duties & Responsibilities 

The candidate must be a hard-working, team player willing to learn and participate in various Cemetery projects. Duties will require working outside in all weather conditions. Summer 2020 internship dates are flexible, but may begin as early as March 9, 2019. Hours of work are Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm with overtime as required.

Education and Experience 

Enrollment or post grad. in a turf grass program or closely related field.
