Job Description 

The Morton Arboretum is a world-renowned nonprofit with a unique opportunity for a creative self-starter with an interest in trees, nature, and conservation. We’re seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has experience creating a wide-range of marketing collateral, working with external partners and media agencies, and using metrics and stats to shape promotional strategies. You’ll be part of a talented Marketing and Communications team, working in a business casual office, with 1,700 acres of nature and beauty outside your office door.

Position Summary: Responsible for the implementation of The Morton Arboretum’s integrated marketing communications that attract and engage audiences and heighten brand awareness. Lead the development of multichannel marketing plans and create brand-appropriate promotional copy for marketing campaigns. Play a key role in the development of annual advertising plans, and support marketing automation and email marketing efforts. Collect and analyze data to measure the success of marketing efforts and improve understanding of Arboretum audiences.

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Develop and implement promotional and integrated marketing plans for Arboretum exhibitions, events, and programs. Prepare creative briefs and strategy documents, monitor job progress by tracking schedules, and ensure effective delivery of projects to deadline.
Write, edit, and proofread branded marketing copy, incorporating key messages and strategies, for use across communication channels. Partner with Design team for campaign creative development.
Serve as a primary point-of-contact with external media agency and internal teams. Support the development of and facilitate an annual advertising plan to support reputation, participation, and revenue goals.
Oversee the generation, analysis, and presentation of marketing statistic reports comparing promotional activities with attendance and revenue trends.
Partner with the Marketing Coordinator to lead email and marketing automation efforts, setting a comprehensive strategy that balances multiple departments’ needs and schedules, providing content and design, tracking outcomes, proposing tests and improvements.
Lead the partnership with external research vendor to manage audience research reporting and data collection to measure the success of Arboretum marketing efforts and to better understand Arboretum audiences.
Serve as liaison and cultivate relationships with external community partners to ensure brand consistency and mission relevance for promotional opportunities.
Work with the Director to prepare the annual marketing budget. Manage and reconcile budgets on an ongoing basis.

Education and Experience 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related field. 4+ years of relevant experience required, including marketing and advertising project management. Exceptional writing/editing/proofreading skills, and meticulous attention to detail. Experience leading project collaborations with successful and measurable outcomes required. Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously required. Advanced knowledge of marketing tactics and how to combine them effectively required. Experience working with an advertising or media planning agency preferred. Critical thinking and problem-solving required. Familiarity with Google applications, Basecamp, Survey Monkey, CRM, and email and marketing automation systems preferred. Experience in an agency, museum, botanic garden, or large-scale nonprofit organization helpful.

Physical Demands: Requires some physical activity: it is necessary to operate a computer for prolonged periods on a daily basis, limited carrying and lifting (up to 25 lbs.), some local travel.
