Job Description 

The Education Manager, under the direction of the Director of Community Engagement, is responsible for the successful administration of all facets of educational programming on behalf of the MetroParks. The incumbent is responsible for the developing, marketing, planning, implementing and evaluating all educational programs, activities, tours and events offered by or in collaboration with MetroParks. This position is also suitable for transitional duty.

Duties & Responsibilities 

Education Management ...........................................................................................55%
-Develop both short and long-term educational programming plans utilizing and promoting all locations under the management of the MetroParks
-Promote and manage educational displays and special events throughout the MetroParks
-Oversee retail sale operations in the Ford Nature Center and Lanterman’s Mill, including merchandise selection, inventory control and product promotion
-Monitor, evaluate and prepare educational programming and events assessments and provide recommendations based upon the completed assessments
-Oversee the administration of all educational programs, events, camps, and facility tours
-Ensure the appropriate promotion and successful implementation and support of the educational programs and events offered by the MetroParks
-Prepare accurate estimates of program costs and develops sufficient cost recovery formulas for the corresponding programs and events
-Serves as both a liaison between and a resource for the education community and the MetroParks
-Conduct educational programs and events as needed to ensure the success of the department
-Develop and administer third party instructor agreements as part of special events and program offerings

Supervision of Related Personnel and Activities .....................................................25%
-Provide leadership, direct supervision and support to assigned employees and volunteers
-Hire, train and discipline employees, ensures that daily actions are of a positive and professional manner
-Monitor and adjust staffing levels to ensure public and facility needs are met
-Review, approve and maintain all necessary records, including but not limited to time cards, program records and purchase orders
-Ensure safe, clean and attractive educational displays and facilities

Departmental Functions .....................……......................................................……...20%
-Communicate with the Gardens Director and Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens for all horticulture education related/Gardens based/Friends sponsored programs, activities, events and speaking engagements
-Present educational plans, presentations and updates to the Board of Commissioners as requested
-Assist the Community Engagement Director in developing, implementing and monitoring the Annual Plan of Operation and corresponding Annual Budget
-Assist in ensuring departmental compliance with all MetroParks operating policies and procedures
-Other duties as assigned by the Community Engagement Director

Education and Experience 

-Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Ohio Driver's License
-Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education Administration, Environmental Education, Parks Administration or equivalent from an accredited College or University
-Minimum of three (3) years demonstrated supervisory experience
-Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated teaching and lesson planning experience in the subject matter of science or natural resources
