Part time, paid summer 2019 horticulture internship at the Leach Botanical Garden, located in outer SE Portland, Oregon, on 18 acres along Johnson Creek. A gift to the City in 1980 by John and Lila Leach, the Garden has several discrete collections including native plantings, ferns and a magnificent over-story of Douglas- fir. The Leach Botanical Garden Internship is supported in part through the Gary W. Simone Horticultural Internship Fund established in 2016.
The internship program is designed to offer hands-on experiences for persons aspiring to a career in horticulture, public gardens, and landscape architecture or design. The intern will work alongside our horticulture staff and volunteers. This includes planting, weeding, watering/irrigation, mulching, pruning, visitor interaction, plant labeling, inventory and collections record keeping, public education and propagation. Educational field trips and public educational programs are offered to help broaden the student’s horticultural horizon. Student must be able to work in all weather conditions, be able to lift 50#.
Student needs to have completed, at minimum 20 credit hours of horticulture or biology related coursework at the university or college level.
