The Wildflower Center is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of native plants. It does so through its gardens, educational programs, ecological research, off-site consulting and more. In 2017, it was designated the Botanic Garden of Texas. Serves as an attendant in the Fortlandia exhibition in the Mollie Steves Zachary Texas Arboretum. Provides guests with assistance and answers questions related to the forts or Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Monitors the condition of each fort and guest behavior to ensure everyone is safe. Provides wayfinding information first aid supplies, and maps when requested or needed.
Function 1: Guest Services
Greets and interacts with guests in a friendly manner. Staff a Fortlandia information table on busy weekends and events. Provides guests with information, answers questions, and gives directions. Share information about the forts and designers. Directs guests to services such as bathrooms, water, and first aid. Assists guests with any injuries by providing a first aid kit or calling 911 if needed. Follows all UT policies for incidents. Report any suspicious behavior to staff or UT PD. Watch for children that may be lost and take action to reunite all parties.

Function 2: Fort Safety & Maintenance
In preparation for the opening of the exhibition assist with mulching, sign installation, and fort installation. Conducts daily safety inspections of forts. Reports major safety hazards to staff immediately and if needed closes the forts to the public. Makes minor repairs to forts as needed. Assist with maintenance of areas such as raking, cutting bamboo with handsaws, and sweeping.
Function 3: Exhibition Monitoring
Monitors the exhibition on foot. Carries a radio, maps, and phone to provide assistance or materials as needed. Monitors guests and their interactions with the forts to ensure that everyone is being safe. Interact with guests and kindly ask guests to stop any behaviors that are not desired. Pick up any trash and dispose of it appropriately. Monitor the Fort Build for any broken pieces, sharp objects, left behind items, and unsafe behaviors. Turn in all lost and found items to the gift store. Utilize a golf cart to provide rides for emergencies, haul materials, or refill water.
Function 4: Administration
Completes all required paperwork such as an incident report for injuries. Send weekend summary to Fortlandia staff. Alert staff by phone of concerns that need immediate attention or if 911 was called. Follow and be prepared to take lead on Wildflower Center policies for lost child and special visitor situations.

Assists with educational programming that takes place in the Texas Arboretum and Fortlandia.

1. A high school diploma
2. Texas driver’s license
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
4. Loves working with people of all ages and assisting them with questions
5. Certified in first aid or willing to be certified.
6. Ability to use handheld power tools, rakes, and shovels.
7. Ability to withstand outdoor conditions and walking for hours at a time.
8. Will be required to undergo a background check prior to being hired and complete the CW514 Child Protection training upon hiring
9. Possess a commitment to the garden’s mission of connecting people with plants with a demonstrated interest in native plants and/or gardening
10. Complete the UT Online Driving Training module to gain certificate to drive a UT vehicle.
