Job Description 

Holden Forests & Gardens is one of Northeast Ohio’s largest and most important cultural and environmental institutions. It is comprised of two campuses, the urban Cleveland Botanical Garden campus located in Cleveland’s University Circle and the rural Holden Arboretum campus located in Kirtland.

We are seeking a Development Intern to join our team. Located at the Cleveland Botanical Garden campus, the Development Intern works directly with the Development team to provide support across key fundraising and membership initiatives. This role is instrumental in organizing donor and member information, planning and executing special events.

Duties & Responsibilities 

• Assist with the planning and execution of fundraising events
• Acknowledge donors by composing and sending thank-you letters and making phone calls
• Solicit and track auction items and produce reports on overall status
• Acknowledge receipt of, track and prepare auction items for events and assist development team with auction reconciliation
• Provide administrative support to the team as needed including special projects (e.g., filing, copying, meeting preparation, and organizing electronic files)
• Archive and organize tribute program files and data
• Provide customer service to current and prospective members onsite and via phone and email communications
• Promote and sell memberships
• Generate, print, and mail membership cards and donor acknowledgement letters as well as any other fulfillment-related letters
• Assist with database cleanliness, editing constituent records when applicable
• Provide membership assistance, including sales, during regular hours of operation and on some weekends

Education and Experience 

• Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
• Donor database experience preferred

• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Must be able to coordinate and follow assignments until successfully completed
• Effective and thoughtful writer
• Comfortable talking to corporate and individual donors on the phone and in person

• Must pass a criminal background and substance test
• Must have a driving record in good standing
• Must be able work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends
