Job Description 

Job Summary: Position will assist the Retail Store Manager in the daily operations of the Shop at the Gardens and its staff, within established budgetary guidelines as well as assisting the Buyer/ Merchandise Manager in buying, displaying and maintaining the merchandise sold with the goal of assuring the highest quality customer service and guest experience for all DBG visitors and members.

Duties & Responsibilities 

Essential Job Duties:

Analyze and manage appropriate annual shop operating budgets, inventory, and financial reports and operate the shop within established revenue, and expense projections.
Ensure compliance of all DBG and retail store Operating Policies and Procedures. Set, communicate and ensure compliance with policies for sales, reports, handling of merchandise, customer service, cash handling, returns, and store opening and closing.
Perform assigned tasks in buying and placing orders for retail merchandise within the annual budget and within established net profit margin.
Perform assigned tasks to establish and implement attractive displays that encourage sales. Also identify timely merchandise markdowns and obsolete merchandise.
Coordinate with Buyer/Merchandiser and Shipping/Receiving/Inventory Coordinator to price ticket and implement displays.
Conduct physical inventory and cycle inventory processes as required.
Create and maintain a flexible work schedule for the retail store as defined by the Retail Store Manager

Other Job Duties:

Assist the Retail Store Manager in managing all aspects of Gift Shop staff including but not limited to hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and performance and evaluations.
Partner with the Store Manager and Gift Shop Buyer/Merchandiser to develop a vision and long-term plan for the profitable growth and development of the retail store.
Maintain the shop as well as all ancillary areas in a clean, safe and efficient manner.
Process all customer and vendor orders timely. Merchandise to be receipted and into the shop within appropriate in timely manner.
Communicate to Buyer/ Merchandiser customer and sales staff feedback regarding hot and cold items as well as requests for new “trend” merchandise.
Some travel with Buyer/Merchandiser as required for buying and merchandising
Maintain a current knowledge of the Denver Botanic Gardens Employee Handbook.
Work with all departments to assure highest quality experience for all DBG visitors within the Retail Store and throughout the Gardens.
Proactively seeks to be knowledgeable about all DBG horticulture, exhibits, programs and events to better select merchandise that reflects the experience and brand at the Gardens.
Perform other duties or special projects as requested by management.

Education and Experience 

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a retail management role. Must have strong leadership skills, and have experience with team building and successfully motivating and training sales people in a competitive retail environment. Strong computer skills in Windows-based applications, retail POS software management and Razor’s Edge software preferred.
