Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden is seeking a creative and inspired individual interested in building innovative educational programs based in the outdoor, garden environment for diverse audiences of all ages.
The Director of Education provides vision, leadership, and overall management for the Education Department and staff, including the Volunteer Program, School Programs, continuing Education, Youth and Family Programming, and Exhibit Interpretive Planning. The incumbent should bring an innovative, entrepreneurial approach to program development in a way that capitalizes on the Garden's strengths. The Education Department must continue to respond by approaching opportunities with openness, resourcefulness, and creative thinking, as well as awareness of trends and innovation within public gardens and the larger museum field.
The Director of Education should bring to this role a high degree of enthusiasm, a great passion for engaging diverse audiences of all ages in learning about nature and a strong public presence with the ability to act as a spokesperson for the Garden.
The Director of Education reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the Garden's Leadership Team. As such, this position requires working collaboratively, meeting deadlines and communicating clearly with coworkers and staff at all times.
The individual selected for this position will work collaboratively with other departments especially development and events to achieve the mission and goals of the Garden. Additionally, the Director of Education will serve as an ambassador for the Garden through local and regional partnerships as well as representing the Garden in professional societies nationally.
Minimum of BS/BA in related field; at least three to five years experience in nonprofit/museum environment with direct oversight of educational programs; experience with volunteer management ideal. Proven ability to provide organization and leadership to a diverse staff; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to work as a team member toward the overall success of the Garden are required.
