Job Description 

Cornell Botanic Gardens, the living museum of Cornell University, is seeking an Administrative Manager to lead its business and HR enterprise. This position is a key element of the botanic gardens’ Senior Leadership Team and serves also as a member of the administrative managers group of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

The botanical gardens, arboretum, and natural areas cover approximately 3,600 acres. Cornell Botanic Gardens' annual operating budget is $3.7 million, with the largest portions of funding derived from the interest income on $39 million in investment income, as well as annual memberships and gifts for special projects. During the growing season, Cornell Botanic Gardens employs up to 45 full- and part-time staff, including students and temporary employees with about twenty regular union (UAW) employees.

Duties & Responsibilities 

The lucky winner will direct the gardens’ financial, administrative, and facilities management functions and will report to the Executive Director, with additional functional responsibility within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The successful candidate will advise and assist the Executive Director and Program Directors on financial, human resource, facilities, and operational issues and advise the Executive Director on development and implementation of management strategies for short- & long-range fiscal, operational, facilities and human resource issues.

Education and Experience 

Required are a Bachelor’s degree (or other formal four-year training program) in business administration, organizational development, human relations, or related field, and 3+ years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Other necessary attributes and skills include excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong financial acumen; familiarity with human resource laws, previous supervisory experience, and excellent customer service skills.
