Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has named Andrew Bunting its Vice President of Public Horticulture, a new position that will lead PHS’s Urban Design, Public Landscapes, PHS Pop Up Gardens, and PHS Meadowbrook Farm. Bunting returns to Philadelphia after four years away where he held senior leadership positions at Chicago Botanic Garden and Atlanta Botanical Garden.
“We are excited to have Andrew join our team,” said Matt Rader, President of PHS. “Andrew’s passion for horticulture is contagious. He is a recognized and accomplished leader in public horticulture. This made him the perfect candidate to both elevate and engage everyone in PHS’s extraordinary work to create great horticulture in public spaces and parks.”
Prior to his work in Chicago and Atlanta, Bunting spent 29 years in the greater Philadelphia area, where he was employed by Scott Arboretum for 27 years, in addition to Chanticleer Garden in Wayne, and was owner of Fine Garden Creations, Inc. He is one of the most recognized horticulturists in the Philadelphia region and a highly regarded colleague in the world of professional horticulture. Bunting has amassed a plethora of awards including the American Public Gardens Association Professional Citation, Chanticleer Scholarship in Professional Development, Delaware Center for Horticulture’s Marion Marsh Award, and the Certificate of Merit from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
In addition, Bunting has published over 200 articles in various national publications, lectured extensively throughout North America and Europe, and participated in plant expeditions throughout Asia and Africa. Bunting published his first book in 2015, “The Plant Lover’s Guide to Magnolias.”
