North American Plant Conservation initiative launched at Northamericanplants.org
Gardens practice conservation efforts, but few gardens realize how their efforts are relevant to global plant conservation. Working together, Botanic Gardens Conservation International US, The Center for plant Conservation, The Plant Conservation Alliance-Non-Federal Cooperators Committee and the American Public Gardens Association have extensively revised and published the 2016-2020 North American Botanic Garden Strategy for Plant Conservation.
Their joint website – Northamericanplants.org – contains the electronic strategy document, which contains hundreds of links to relevant information. Founded upon the 2006 goals/targets, the document contains greater depth, but is written in a manner to encourage anyone to access and apply it, regardless of your role in a garden. Case studies illustrating the variety of plant conservation efforts underway at several gardens also provide your inspiration for conservation action!
