The Board of Directors of The McIntire Botanical Garden announced today the selection of Jill Trischman-Marks as the organization’s first Executive Director.

Trischman-Marks is a practicing landscape architect with more than 30-years experience in design and construct processes for gardens and outdoor spaces. Additionally, she brings nearly 20 years of practical business experience as the principal of Jill Trischman-Marks Landscape Architects. She has been a resident of Charlottesville since 1989, when she moved here to pursue a graduate degree in landscape architecture at the University of Virginia.

As Executive Director, Trischman-Marks will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Garden’s development, expansion and programs, while adhering to its mission. She will report to the Board of Directors.

“I am very excited that Jill will serve as McIntire Botanical Garden’s first Executive Director,” said Joan Swanberg, President, McIntire Botanical Garden. “Jill brings to this position an intimate working knowledge of our design, established relationships with our friends and supporters, and a genuine enthusiasm for creating this free, public garden."

A member of the McIntire Botanical Garden Board of Directors, Trischman-Marks has served as a member of the Development Committee, as co-chair of the Design Committee, as chair of the RFP, Selection and Ian Robertson Legacy Committees, and as the Vice President.

Trischman-Marks was selected through a competitive process that considered candidates from across the country. At the end of the process, the Board felt Trischman-Marks’ history with the organization, local network and business acumen would best drive the Garden’s future.

“We were delighted that Jill wanted to be considered for this critical role,” said Deborah Bell-Burks, Member of the Board of Directors. “She has been an integral part of McIntire Botanical Garden up until this point as a Board Member and leading the Design Process. The future of our Garden is in very capable hands.”

"It was a love of plants and history that brought me first to the field of landscape architecture,” said Trischman-Marks.  “I have dedicated the last thirty years to bringing beautiful and functional outdoor spaces to one client at a time. I am thrilled to be able to work toward bringing the same to the entire Charlottesville community."

Trischman-Marks will be stepping down from the day-to-day operations of Jill Trischman-Marks Landscape Architects, and will officially assume her position on September 1. She will be working from the McIntire Botanical Garden’s new offices at the Enterprise Center, 401 E Market Street, Ste. 25, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
