Job Description

The Summer Intern in Land Stewardship is responsible for performing land management tasks necessary to maintain and improve the natural areas on the preserve properties. The Stewardship intern will be working at Stroud Preserve in West Chester 2 days a week, ChesLen Preserve in Coatesville 2 days a week and Hildacy Preserve in Media 1 day a week. The position will include the operation of power equipment, such as tractors, weed whips, and lawn mowers.

About Us

Natural Lands, a vibrant, regional, nonprofit organization and leader in land conservation, natural resource stewardship, and public engagement, seeks a Summer Intern to join our team at our ChesLen Preserve in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

Since the early 1950s, Natural Lands has saved open space, cared for nature, and connected people to the outdoors in eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Today, the organization is one of the nation’s largest regional land conservancies and is widely respected for its record of success, technical expertise, respectful and creative approach to partnerships, fiscal strength, and integrity.

Over the course of its nearly 70-year history, Natural Lands has helped preserve more than 135,000 acres including a network of over 40 nature preserves and one public garden across two states and 13 counties. These properties total 23,000 acres and include many of the most spectacular and diverse properties in the region, which are enjoyed by more than 300,000 visitors annually.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Highly motivated, responsible, reliable and dependable
• Capable of performing a wide variety of physically demanding tasks
• Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and a good driving record
• Customer service attitude and comfortable working with the general public
• Flexibility when dealing with changes in work plans
• Carry out tasks in a professional manner
• Adequate skills and a familiarity with the safe operation and care of basic hand and power tools
• Must be prepared to work outdoors under all conditions, including heat, cold, and with occasional exposure to poison ivy, biting and stinging insects, etc.
• Willingness to perform subordinate tasks such as clean-up
