As we look ahead to our Centennial in 2029, The Arboretum is currently seeking a strategic, mission-driven leader to elevate how guests learn, engage and connect with our history and mission.

The Senior Director of Learning & Research is a key member of the Leadership Team responsible for shaping meaningful experiences, advancing scientific impact, and deepening a connection to our mission.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Senior Director of Learning & Research will
• Lead strategy and impact by shaping and executing a vision for learning, engagement, history, and research through mission-driven programs that serve schools, families, members and community groups.
• Create compelling, inclusive, and innovative experiences and events that encourage repeat visitation, deepen a connection with our mission, and contribute to revenue growth.
• Advance science and storytelling by collaborating across teams to bring our science, history, and conservation work to life in ways that resonate with today’s audiences and building upon STEAM initiatives, while implementing evaluation tools to measure effectiveness and guest impact.
• Lead and develop teams through mentorship, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
• Drive performance and sustainability through oversight of departmental budgets and ensuring fiscal responsibility.

Education and Experience

If the above speaks to you, please submit your resume demonstrating the following:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Education, Environmental Science, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in education, programming, or similar environments.
• Experience with leading teams, managing budgets, and driving strategic initiatives.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to vary communication abilities based on audience and topic.
• Understanding of non-profit environment, mission-driven storytelling, revenue-related programming, and audience engagement.
• Valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

The annual salary range for this exempt level position is $85,000-$95,000.
