Job Description
This position supports the Learning Engagement & Interpretation team to enhance visitor experiences by facilitating tours, delivering educational opportunities, assisting with evaluation projects and more. The Learning Engagement Assistant delivers visitor-facing science and art programs that are fun, welcoming, inclusive and relevant. This is an on-call position and requires a flexible schedule to accommodate regular evening and weekend hours at Denver Botanic Gardens’ York Street and Chatfield Farms locations.

Duties & Responsibilities
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads tours and other learning opportunities such as science chats, learning carts and other drop-in activities.
- Conducts observations of programs and visitor behaviors; follows established protocol for evaluation projects and enter data accurately.
- Willingness to learn and uphold best practices in fields of science communication, bilingual interpretation, adult learning, museum education and related fields.
- Maintains a positive, professional and solution-oriented demeanor when communicating with staff, volunteers, members and visitors.
- Regular attendance at the worksite is required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work.
- Remote work is always at the discretion of management.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience and comfortability speaking and presenting to groups.
- Ability to respond to sensitive issues with care and maintain confidentiality as needed.
- Committed to inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility initiatives, tools and implementation in respect to work in a public garden space.
- Comfortable working with diverse staff and audiences of all ages; adaptable to different communication styles.
- Exhibit curiosity and demonstrate commitment to Denver Botanic Gardens’ values of sustainability, transformation, relevance and diversity.
- Familiarity with botany, ecology and art required, or a willingness to learn.
- Maintain a curious, positive and solution-oriented demeanor with all stakeholders.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and/or holidays as needed.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
- Must always be a positive representative of the Gardens internally and externally.
- Must work with respect and cooperation with fellow employees and the public.
- Must be committed to working safely.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma / GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
- At least 1 year of experience in visitor services, program facilitation, adult education or science communication is preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
Additional Information
Travel:
Up to 25% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to remote locations (or other Garden locations) where environment may vary significantly.
