Job Description
With over 12 acres of gardens, 32 acres of forest plus extensive meadows and woodland trails, Chevy Chase Club offers members and their guests’ relief from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The gardens reflect an estate design philosophy that both respects the Club’s history and fosters interest for generations to come.
The Horticulture team strives to consistently exceed the expectations of members and guests. They accomplish this by balancing creativity and innovation with high standards of horticulture, responsible environmental stewardship, and efficient use of resources.
Horticulture interns work alongside staff to complete various tasks that enhance and maintain the landscape and gardens. The areas of emphasis include a 2 mile nature trail, 32 acres of forest, an herb and vegetable garden, a formal rose garden, a native woodland gardens, herbaceous perennial borders, two acres of turf and an extensive collection of trees, shrubs, annuals and tropical plants.

Duties & Responsibilities
What you will learn
• Plant identification
• Proper horticulture techniques (planting, staking, pruning, fertilization, weed control)
• Integrated pest management
• Record keeping as it pertains to plant collections
• Water conservation and management of the irrigation system
• Propagation of herbaceous plants
• Financial management as it pertains to a horticulture operation
• Activities and approaches for engaging members in the gardens
Education and Experience
This is a paid internship (exact dates are flexible depending on the university calendar) open to full time students in a green industry related field.
Onsite housing and meals are provided.
Hours are from 6:30am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime, weekend and holiday work.
Pay rate is $18.25 per hour with overtime paid at 1.5 times the rate for hours over 40 per week.
