Job Description

Private Estate in Middle Tennessee, one hour south of Nashville, is seeking a hands-on and experienced Head Gardener to manage all horticultural aspects of the property. The Head Gardener will work alongside and lead a small, dedicated garden team.
The Gardens are terraced and feature an extensive collection of Boxwoods, an English-inspired Rose Garden, and beautifully designed walled gardens. European-style shaped Topiaries, an espaliered Pear Tree fence row, and a vast collection of container plants are part of the Estate’s footprint. The owners are committed to creating a garden of outstanding beauty, inspired by some of the great gardens of the UK and Europe.

 

Responsibilities

Daily management of the garden and farm landscape, including, but not limited to, the following

– Minimum of 5 years of experience in Estate, Private, and Public Gardens

– Able to lift 50 lbs. as well as work under any weather conditions.

-Ability to walk, kneel, bend, and carry out physical activities.

-Daily operation of the garden, including both hands-on gardening and management of its staff

-Working with the homeowners to realize their goals for the garden

-Building and leading the gardening team

-Creating daily, weekly, and monthly work schedules and managing those schedules with the staff

-Plant care and plant health care knowledge are a must

– Plant acquisition to include ordering plants, scheduling and managing deliveries, storage and maintenance of plants upon arrival, and timely installation

-Garden and landscape maintenance and management, to include the basic daily tasks involved in maintenance of the garden proper

-working with the Owners on improvements to, and future expansion of, the garden and other landscaped areas around the farm.

 

Benefits

Pay and Benefits

– Full-time year-round with occasional weekend work or coverage

-Salary range $ 55,000 to $70,000 annual starting salary, based on experience

– Health Insurance package including Dental and Vision

-Housing – a small, newly renovated home will be provided on a nearby property
