Detailed Description

The Greenhouse Horticulturist is responsible for working with the Senior Greenhouse Horticulturist to develop and maintain the vibrant displays in the Elder Greenhouse plant collection. This position needs to consistently train and lead part-time staff and volunteers in the planning and implementation of festival program displays, including Winterlights and Harvest. Art in Bloom involves a significant commitment to working with floral professionals from across the country to create art-inspired pieces in the galleries. This position will be responsible for leading the team in designing and fulfilling floral requests for special events in the museum and all historic outbuildings. This person needs to be highly self-motivated, creative, detail-oriented, and able to complete tasks without supervision.

Duties & Responsibilities

This role is responsible for creating dynamic and visually compelling floral and interiorscape designs that align with event themes and enhance the guest experience. The position receives and fulfills floral requests, develops inspiring plant displays using unique tropical material, and ensures the proper care and maintenance of all interior plant collections utilizing horticultural best practices.

The individual also supports greenhouse operations, including routine watering, pest and disease identification and mitigation, and grooming plant material to ensure optimal health and presentation. A strong commitment to horticultural excellence is essential to maintain the stability and quality of the living collection.

In collaboration with other departments, this role contributes to the design and installation of greenhouse-inspired elements for seasonal displays and festivals. Responsibilities include tracking budgets, managing communications, and executing design plans effectively.

Additional duties include maintaining clean and organized workspaces, tools, and greenhouse areas; assisting in assigning tasks to staff and volunteers; and supporting the development of training and educational opportunities for team members.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate a strong understanding of tropical plant care and maintenance, proven floral design experience, solid organizational skills, and comfort using standard office technology and software.

5+ years of Floral Experience
B.S. in Horticulture or related field or equivalent experience in the green industry.

The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is typically moderate in noise level.
