Job Description

This position acts as a customer-oriented liaison between the Gardens and the public. This position is focused on ensuring the highest possible level of service while working to perform grounds work, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, water features, and carpentry repair work as directed on equipment and/or buildings.

In addition to general carpentry work, the Facility Maintenance Specialists performs work on a wide variety of maintenance projects, such as painting, irrigation repairs and installations, drywall repairs, masonry, tile, glass, doors, and other structures, fixtures, and furniture throughout the Gardens.

Salary

$26.17 – $32.71 – Per Hour

Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking a Full Time Facility Maintenance Specialist in our Operations Department! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:

Duties & Responsibilities

Performs preventative and routine building maintenance (e.g. replaces light bulbs and ballasts, repairs and/or replaces carpet floor tile, carpet, plumbing fixtures, roofs, windows, doors, walls, ceiling tiles, etc.)
Painting and strong aptitude for drywall patches and repairs (interior and exterior), performs routine maintenance and/or repairs to equipment, electrical, and paint spraying equipment as needed.
Moves and/or transports furniture and equipment.
Uses skill and manual dexterity to safely and proficiently operate various tools and equipment.
Repairs/maintains building components – walls, doors, windows, ceiling, counters, cabinets, furniture and other fixtures and many different roofing systems within the facilities.
Uses blueprints and drawings during construction and maintenance of facilities.
Operates and maintains small engines and hand tools; gas-driven fastening tools, hand drills, woodworking machines such as band saw, mortise, drill press, power saw, joiner, shaper, and other related power and hand tools as well as snow blowers, golf carts and lawn mowers.
Inspects facilities and equipment to determine installation, maintenance, and repair needs.
Estimates materials.
Applies productivity time guidelines and other required data to work repair forms, maintains records, and prepares daily activity reports.
Assists in grounds keeping, such as set up and tear down of equipment for special events.
Maintains working knowledge of maintenance, methods, materials and equipment, as well as safety regulations and precautions related to work performed.
Interprets or works from sketches, building plans, specifications and oral or written instructions.
Performs work inside and/or outside, involving exposure to extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, chemical hazards.
Works in confined spaces, darkness or poor lighting conditions, trenches, and/or isolation.
Participates with snow removal duties.
Maintains a positive and professional working relationship with managers, co-workers and others.
Maintains a positive, helpful and solution-oriented demeanor when responding to or serving members, visitors or others.
Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to use and skill in the use of various tools and equipment related to building maintenance.
Knowledge of proper safety requirements related to building maintenance practices.
Ability to interpret building plans and specifications.
Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans when necessary, throughout the day.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
Ability to work overtime as necessary.
Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
Must be committed to working safely at all times.

Education and Experience

High school diploma / GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
Minimum of three years Preferred experience with irrigation installations and repairs and working knowledge Rainbird site control software Preferred experience with irrigation installations and repairs and working knowledge Rainbird site control software.
Preferred experience with water feature maintenance and operations.
Experience in general maintenance work with some experience in the repair and maintenance of facilities, operating light-motor driven equipment or any combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
