This “project will connect two of Birmingham’s oldest and most visited attractions. As a follow-up to developments along Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ road perimeter, Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens will invest over $700,000 in improvements that focus on three main goals: pedestrian connectivity, improved security and an improved visitor experience. All improvements will feature universal design, with the most noticeable changes coming on Cahaba Road, the road that separates The Gardens from its neighbors at the Birmingham Zoo. There, a pedestrian entrance will be created, accompanied by new signage welcoming guests to The Gardens, bike racks, a map and a complete renovation of the Lawler Gates. On the Lane Park Road side of The Gardens, a new pedestrian crosswalk will be installed, and a barrier-free path will connect to the Garden Center and gardens areas beyond. Along the roadways, new perimeter fencing is already in progress…”
