Mark your calendars and register here for the next Tech Tuesday webinar on February 19th, 2019 at 2pm EST. The GoToWebinar will be 1 hour and include chat for Q&A.
This Tech Tuesday webinar features Rowan Blaik, will present an introduction to making a custom data capture 'shortcut' using the free Shortcuts app on iOS devices. A shortcut is task automation that steps through a set of actions. These actions could ask the user for input, grab data from the device's sensors (camera or GPS) or another app, and save or share the data. Shortcut actions are simple to learn, sequenced by stacking them together like Lego bricks, repeatable, and easy to share. An example shortcut:
Input an accession number + input plant condition from a pick list + take a photo + title that image with the input data + take a GPS reading + save the image to the cloud + add all other details to a spreadsheet file
The webinar will run through an introduction, how it's used at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and how to write a simple example shortcut. Rowan Blaik is Director of Living Collections at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. He holds a Master of Research in spatial analysis from UCL, London, and a Diploma in Horticulture from RBG, Kew. He specializes in historic and botanic horticulture and was previously head gardener at Down House, the home of Charles Darwin.
