Desert Botanical Garden was honored with a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the 2015 Esri International User Conference. This award acknowledges vision, leadership, hard work, and innovative use of Esri's geographic information system technology. In 2012 the Garden ramped up its plant mapping work by hiring a full-time GIS technician and incorporating GIS software and web maps into the plant records management toolkit. The LCMS, the Garden’s online plant records database, is utilized by staff and by the international research community to locate specific plantings in the Garden. The LCMS is also accessible to the public at livingcollections.org.
