The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley is seeking an enthusiastic professional for the position of Horticulturist.  The Horticulturist is a full-time, salaried position in the Gardens & Grounds department.  The Horticulturist is responsible for greenhouse operations/production, maintaining assigned garden section and will serve as a resource to Gardens & Grounds Technicians concerning horticulture information, identifying and recommending treatment for diseases and pests.  The Horticulturist will also present Education programs and maintain plant records. 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in horticulture.
  • Advanced knowledge of pesticide management, arbor-culture and turf management.
  • Advanced knowledge of ornamental horticulture in all phases; plant propagation and cultivation.
  • Considerable knowledge of professional landscape and maintenance principles and practices, and methods related to conduct of public garden programs.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to grounds keeping.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with the public, volunteers, and MSV colleagues and interact with a diverse group of people.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
