Department: The Greenhouses 
Work with horticulture staff and staff in other departments in the planning for, installing of and maintaining changing exhibits such as Wonderland Express and The Orchid Show. Tasks will include installing plants and props as well as maintenance including watering and grooming plants in which attention to detail is important. Work with the Curator of Bonsai to water and trim bonsai that are on public display. Assist with the maintenance of The Greenhouses. The work week will include one weekend day.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
In this role you will be responsible for the following:
• Install and maintain plants in temporary, changing exhibits such as Wonderland Express and The Orchid Show. Respond to plant requests for events requiring podium plants and centerpieces.
• Water and trim bonsai when on public display in the Regenstein courtyards.
• Assist with the maintenance of plants in the Greenhouses, Regenstein Center, Administration Building and Science Center through watering, pruning, planting, grooming, fertilizing, removing debris, weeding, dead heading, repotting, applying pesticides, maintaining and inventorying tools and cleaning glass. Assist with the white washing greenhouses.
• Assist the Senior Horticulturist with developing designs, selecting and ordering plants for changing exhibits.
• Provide current information to Plant Records regarding plant accessions, removals, transfers and label requirements. Label plants in a timely manner and assist with the installation of accession tags.
• Serve as a horticultural resource for the Garden by leading tours, giving demonstrations, answering visitor and staff questions and serving on planning teams.
• Inform the Senior Horticulturist, The Greenhouse of disease, insect, animal and weed problems.
• Maintain a good level of computer literacy for purposes of interdepartmental documentation and communication.
Our ideal candidate will have:
• Associates degree in horticulture or commensurate experience.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• A valid Illinois pesticide applicator's license or ability to obtain one upon hiring.
• A valid driver's license and be insurable by the garden.
Physical Demands: 
Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry items up to 50 pounds. Be comfortable working on step ladders and extension ladders while maintaining plants and white washing the greenhouses.
