REPORTS TO: Director of Development & Membership 
 
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time; salaried; permanent 
 
OVERVIEW: 
The Development Manager provides strategic direction and execution for annual giving programs, while supporting the greater fund development and capital campaign goals of Bok Tower Gardens. Areas of responsibility include membership, the annual fund, memorials and tributes, corporate gifts and sponsorships, and grant writing and reporting. The Development Manager reports to the Director of Development and is part of a team including a fulltime Development Assistant, a fulltime Special Projects Assistant, seasonal Membership Associates, as well as volunteers working within the department. The Development Manager will develop communication and solicitation strategies incorporating email, direct mail, phone/mail, onsite event presence, personal interaction and volunteer engagement, all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support. The Manager has a keen appreciation that annual giving is the foundation for successful major and gift planning programs. The Development Manager will work cross-departmentally with key personnel to achieve successful fundraising and to nurture a culture of philanthropy.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Manage the membership program and develop/implement strategies for greater member retention, lapsed recapture, new member acquisition, and effective stewardship/gift processing/donor relations to meet goals.
  • Develop and execute the strategic communications plan for the “Share the Gift” annual fund.
  • Conduct the memorial/tribute program and incorporate new opportunities as presented within the context of the capital campaign.
  • Secure sponsorships and designated gifts for core programs, concerts, and other activities on an annual basis from both corporate and individual sources. 
  • Write proposals and administer grants initiated by the Development Department.
  • Seek in-kind donations from community for goods/services related to departmental activity.
  • Supervise seasonal Membership Associates. 
  • Assist with fundraising/cultivation/stewardship events.
  • Work with development team on creation of annual report, newsletter articles, and other communications as necessary.
  • Participate in professional development organizations, travel locally and out-of-town as necessary for cultivation/solicitation purposes. 
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: 
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize opportunities, identify critical, high pay-off activities and prioritize them to attain goals.
  • Track record of soliciting gifts.
  • Knowledge of development/fundraising concepts and solicitation techniques.
  • Excellent skill and understanding of databases and spreadsheets required. 
  • Strong interpersonal/human relations skills utilizing diplomacy and tact.
  • Strong writing skills; must be able to demonstrate a variety of writing styles (solicitations, newsletter, grant proposals).
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks with effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide direction and motivation to others through communication, modeling appropriate behavior, optimism and high achievement.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to various situations.
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and to work nights and weekends, as required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
Bachelor's degree; minimum 3-5 years of fundraising management experience.  
 
COMPENSATION: 
Competitive and commensurate with experience.
