Temporary 6 month Arborist Assistant

Cornell Plantations is recruiting for an assistant arborist interested in a six month temporary appointment.

The arborist assistant will assist the lead arborist with implementing Plantations’ Tree Risk Assessment Program (TRAP) for the cultivated collections and within identified Natural Areas, including tree assessment and work in and around university gorges and means restriction nets. Assist with removal of trees or tree parts identified to be a safety risk to Plantations staff, the Cornell community, visitors, and buildings and infrastructure. Perform both ground and Arial tree work as part of a two person arborist team. Assist with implementing the F.R. Newman Arboretum Maintenance Plan for the care of trees throughout the cultivated collections and the natural areas. 

Work outdoors in varying climatic conditions (heat, cold, precipitation, etc.).

Potential for coming into contact with poison ivy and stinging insects.
