As Plant Protection Program manager, Tyler oversees the Sentinel Plant Network, which engages member gardens to be active on the front lines of early detection of significant threats to plant health and biosecurity. Tyler also manages the Public Garden Surveys project, which recruits strategically located member institutions to perform targeted pest surveys. Tyler also works with Marisol Mata to help develop content for the Plant Heroes® youth education program.
Tyler has a B.S. in Natural Resources from Cornell University and an A.A.S. in Plant Science from SUNY Cobleskill. He has worked in horticulture for over 10 years, most recently as a Plant Health Specialist at Cornell Botanic Gardens and a gardener at Celia Thaxter’s Island Garden on the Isles of Shoals, Maine. Tyler is dedicated to promoting plant and forest conservation by enhancing public involvement in the detection of invasive plant pests.
