Nemours Estate (formerly Nemours Mansion & Gardens) is the historic estate of Alfred I. duPont (1864-1935), an American industrialist and philanthropist. Dating back to 1909, the Estate includes the 77-room, 47,000-square foot Nemours Mansion; the largest French-inspired formal gardens in North America; and nearly 200 acres of lawns, woodlands, meadows and ponds. Open to the public since 1977, the Estate shares a campus with Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, flagship of Nemours Children’s Health, one of the largest integrated pediatric health systems in the United States. The Estate welcomes visitors of all ages and backgrounds for self-guided and guided tours, and is working to position itself as a place for nature-based healing and wellness, especially to benefit patients, families and providers from the neighboring children’s hospital.
