APGA Partners with Green Restaurant Association
APGA
is pleased to announce its new initiative to encourage APGA Member Gardens with restaurants and cafés
to become Certified Green Restaurants® in accordance to the national
non-profit Green Restaurant Association's certification guidelines.
We're also pleased to let APGA members
know that they will receive 10% off the GRA's consulting services as a result
of this recent endorsement.
(Please share this information with your
institution's "Green Team" or food service management.)
APGA
is committed to educating the public about the importance of sustainable
practices and environmental stewardship. One way to do this is by encouraging APGA Member
Gardens with café's,
restaurants, and foodservice facilities to become Certified Green Restaurants®.
When done correctly, the green way of running your café or catering facility
will help you save money, gain media attention, increase employee morale, and
draw in new business.
Currently,
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and Missouri Botanical Garden
have both certified their dining facilities using the GRA's program. As an
organization geared toward helping educate the public about environmental
stewardship, the APGA is confident that this endorsement of the GRA's program
is a green step in the right direction.
With
this in mind, the APGA chose to endorse the GRA for the following reasons:
- Transparent
certification program, which is open to the public and available online.
-
Comprehensive
standards that require restaurants to literally be "green" across the board,
rather than simply excelling in one category, like sustainable food.
-
Twenty-year
track record of successfully consulting and certifying restaurants all over the
U.S.
- The GRA is a national non-profit organization,
rather than a for-profit business
The GRA works with every kind of
foodservice operation. Café's, coffee shops, corporate cafeterias, fine dining
restaurants, chains, resorts, etc. are all able to work within the GRA's program
to reduce their environmental impact, conserve energy, water and resources, and
run a more sustainable business.
