The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, Maine, received an extremely generous gift from Lyn and Dan Lerner. The Learners were kind enough to donate the funds needed in order to create the Lerner Garden of the Five Senses. The garden will be designed so that the visually impaired and other disabled individuals can enjoy it to the fullest. Thanks to inventive methods, individuals will also be able to participate in its planting and maintenance. "The Lerner Garden of the Five Senses will enable visitors to experience the Gardens in entirely new ways," said Maureen Heffernan, Executive Director. "It's the logical next step in our growth, and we're very grateful to the Lerners for their generosity and foresight. This wonderful gift will also provide momentum for the current phase of our capital campaign, and we hope it will be an incentive for other donors." Debuting in 2008, this new addition will be a leading example of a sensory garden since it is based on years of travel and study, augmented by extraordinary expertise.
