Volunteer Interaction Symposium Great Success

The Board and staff of the American Public Gardens Association (APGA) would like to thank everyone who was a part of the 2007 Volunteer Interaction Symposium. We are especially thankful to Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens, and Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center for graciously hosting this successful event. Over 50 professionals working in public gardens attended the four-day professional development opportunity. Many attendees left the symposium feeling re-energized and eager to take their newly found volunteer knowledge back to their own gardens. Lea Taddonio, Volunteer Coordinator at the National Tropical Botanical Garden, said, "Interaction 2007 left me realizing that my core business is essentially mobilizing dedicated folks to save the world. I don't think I could ask for a better job! I returned to my Garden enthused to continue channeling citizen participation into the conservation of tropical plants and ecosystems. It was a real treat to network with like-minded folks from around the country who are looking to advance relationships between people and their environment."

For those who attended the symposium, be sure to take time and fill out the online survey sent to you by APGA. We look forward to hearing your thoughts so that we can continue to offer outstanding programs to our members. Thank you again to everyone who participated and helped to support this year's symposium in Houston, Texas.
