Award for Smithsonian Institution's Horticulture Services Division On October 28, 2007, the Smithsonian Institution's Horticulture Services Division received the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) Greenstar Grand Award in the category for Government Buildings and Complexes. This award recognizes organizations who achieve a high degree of excellence in grounds management and a quality appearance of the landscape. It also challenges those responsible for grounds management throughout the country to achieve a higher level of excellence. The Horticulture Services Division develops and maintains approximately 180 acres of intensely to partly landscaped public areas surrounding 13 museums throughout the District of Columbia, and four major support facilities in the District of Columbia and in Suitland, Maryland.
