Bill LeFevre Named Executive Director of Sarah P. Duke Gardens

On October 1st, Bill LeFevre became the fifth executive director of the Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Duke University in Durham, NC. The 55-acre garden is a jewel in the middle of the Duke campus and figures to place an important role in Duke's recently launched a master planning process to guide development of the campus over the next 20-50 years. Bill is currently the executive director at John Bartram Association Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia, PA.

"I am honored to be selected to lead Duke Gardens and follow in the footsteps of Dr. Richard White," said LeFevre.

Coincidentally, Dick (Dr. Richard White) graduated from John Bartram High School, just a few blocks from Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia and the renowned Philadelphia horticulturist John Casper Wister, who advised Dr. Hanes in the early development of Duke Gardens in the 1930s, served as president of the John Bartram Association in the 1940s.

"It's just this kind of horticultural and historical connection that reminds me of why I so enjoy the world of public horticulture!"
