Professional Section Discussion Groups FAQs

 

 

Not currently a member of a professional section? 

Professional sections offer members the unique opportunity to network with their peers in areas addressed by public gardens today. To join, visit  www.publicgardens.org and log in to your account. Scroll down and click on the Update/Edit Profile link. Choose the Communications Options and Professional Info tab at the top of your profile page. Once there, scroll down and select all of the professional sections and Sentinel Plant Network (SPN) regions you'd like to join. Once this step has been made, proceed below. 

 

Currently a member of one or more professional sections? 
To participate in the professional sections discussion groups and resource sharing, start by visiting  www.publicgardens.org and log in to your account. Once there, choose Communities from the main navigation bar, then  Professional Sections. Here you will click the links of any section(s) you would like to join for discussions and resource sharing, then scroll down to select Join This Section. Finally, you will need to verify that your name is displayed correctly, then select Join.

To join an APGA Professional Section

  1. Visit www.publicgardens.org and log into your account
  2. Scroll down and click on the UPDATE/EDIT PROFILE link
  3. Click on the COMMUNICATION OPTIONS AND PROFESSIONAL INFO tab at the top of your profile
  4. Scroll down and select all of the professional sections and SPN regions you would like to join

To participate in APGA Professional Sections Discussion Groups and Resource Sharing

  1. Visit www.publicgardens.org and log into your account
  2. Select the COMMUNITES top navigation button
  3. Select PROFESSIONAL SECTIONS
  4. Select the section(s) you would like to join for discussion and resource sharing
  5. Click on the JOIN THIS SECTION link
  6. Verify your name is correct and select JOIN. Please note that how your name is entered here is how it will appear throughout the section when you comment, add resources, or join discussions.


Discussion Group Disclaimer:

The Professional Section Discussion Groups are open to all members of the American Public Gardens Assocation (APGA) to use for the purposes of networking and exchanging of ideas and best practices. At no time should these platforms be used to house or distribute inappropriate content including (but not limited to) sales oriented information, lewd, profane, or violent comments, personal attacks, aggressive behavior, and spam. APGA reserves the right to monitor these discussion groups and remove any comments deemed inappropriate based on the discretion of APGA staff only.

Manage your subscriptions to APGA Professional Sections Discussion Groups and Resource Sharing

  1. Visit www.publicgardens.org and log into your account
  2. Select the COMMUNITES top navigation button
  3. Select PROFESSIONAL SECTIONS
  4. Select a professional section you are currently subscribed to
  5. Click on the ADMINISTER YOUR SUBSCRIBTIONS link at the bottom of the page
  6. Select EDIT next to the group you wish to update or DROP if you no longer wish to be subscribed to a particular sections discussion group and resource sharing

Posting a Resource

  1. Visit www.publicgardens.org and log into your account
  2. Select the COMMUNITES top navigation button
  3. Select PROFESSIONAL SECTION
  4. Select a professional section you are currently subscribed to
  5. Select ADD RESOURCE under resources
  6. Add a title and description for the resource. Be sure to add a descriptive title and details in the body field as both of these fields are.
  7. Add the resource in the box titled BODY or by adding a link, or attachment. Please note if you are adding several documents via a ZIP folder be sure to give it a title that is descriptive for search purposes.
  8. Under the GROUPS, choose the sections(s) you would like to post the resource to. Please note you can only post to sections you are currently subscribed to.
  9. Select save

Viewing Resources

  1. Visit www.publicgardens.org and log into your account
  2. Select the COMMUNITES top navigation button
  3. Select PROFESSIONAL SECTIONS
  4. Select a professional section you are currently subscribed to
  5. Select VIEW ALL RESOURCES under resources
  6. Click on the individual resource you would like to see
  7. Here you can add comments and subscribe to one or all resources

Starting a New Discussion

  1. Visit www.publicgardens.org and log into your account
  2. Select the COMMUNITES top navigation button
  3. Select PROFESSIONAL SECTIONS
  4. Select a professional section you are currently subscribed to
  5. Select ADD NEW TOPIC under discussions
  6. Enter a subject and the details in the BODY field.
  7. Select the professional section you are posting the discussion on in the FORUM drop box
  8. Under the GROUPS, choose any other sections you would like the discussion to appear on. Please note you can only post to sections you are currently subscribed to.
  9. Select save

Viewing Discussions

  1. Visit www.publicgardens.org and log into your account
  2. Select the COMMUNITES top navigation button
  3. Select PROFESSIONAL SECTIONS
  4. Select a professional section you are currently subscribed to
  5. Select VIEW ALL DISCUSSIONS under discussions
  6. Select the discussion you would like to see
  7. Here you can add comments and subscribe to one or all discussions

Viewing Members

  1. Visit www.publicgardens.org and log into your account
  2. Select the COMMUNITES top navigation button
  3. Select PROFESSIONAL SECTIONS
  4. Select a professional section you are currently subscribed to
  5. Select VIEW ALL MEMBERS under the members
  6. At the top you will see a list of APGA members who subscribed to add resources and discussions.
  7. Under the list of those who subscribe to the discussion groups you will see a list of all APGA members of that particular section and their roles within the section. To join an APGA Professional Section please see TO JOIN AN APGA PROFESSIONAL SECTION above.
