2014 Call for Posters and Student Presentations

 

Student Research Presentation Session

The American Public Gardens Association is accepting abstracts for the Student Research Presentation Session at its 2014 Annual Conference, to be held June 23-27 in Denver, Colorado.

Session Description

The Student Research Presentation Session is devoted exclusively to research findings presented by undergraduate and/or graduate students, and will consist of six (6) 15-minute oral presentations. The session is intended to encourage discussion and facilitate the exchange of current, research-based information pertaining to public horticulture. It also provides an opportunity for students at universities and public horticulture institutions to gain public speaking experience in a professional environment, and presents a forum in which existing professionals may meet their rising peers.

Topic Areas

Research abstracts addressing diverse topics within the field of public horticulture are welcome. Examples of such topics are as follows:

  • Horticultural exhibition and display
  • Plant collections policy and development
  • Plant-based science
  • Conservation initiatives
  • Development and fundraising
  • Education, interpretation, and public programming
  • Institutional relationships and outreach
  • Marketing and promotion

Requirements

In order for abstracts to be considered, the following requirements must be met:

  • The author must be a current undergraduate or graduate student, a student intern, or a recently graduated student (within the past year) who conducted their work prior to graduation. Students must be from accredited institutions of higher education.
  • The person presenting the abstract must be the author or a co-author of the abstract.
  • Accepted presenters must be registered and paid in full for the APGA Annual Conference by April 18, 2014. Otherwise, APGA will remove the abstract from the program.
  • Oral or display/poster presentations are not required, but are strongly preferred as a prerequisite to receive a student travel award for the APGA 2014 Conference.

Submission Deadline

Abstracts will be accepted for review through March 21, 2014.


Selection Process

All abstract submissions will be considered independently from other 2014 APGA Conference sessions.

The Abstract Review and Selection Committee has full authority to accept or reject an abstract upon evaluation of the title and abstract. Rejection of an abstract by this Committee will be considered final.

Poster Presentation Session

APGA is now accepting abstracts for submission to the Poster Presentation Session at the APGA 2014 Annual Conference, which will be held from June 23-27 in Denver, Colorado.
 

Session Description

The Poster Presentation Session will showcase a variety of programs and projects based at public horticulture institutions as well as present student research within the field of public horticulture. All are invited to submit abstracts for review. Posters addressing diverse topics within the field of public horticulture are welcome. Examples of such topics include horticulture and garden operations, conservation, institutional advancement, leadership and innovation, education, and marketing and visitor experience. During the designated session, presenting authors should be stationed by their posters to facilitate interaction with conference attendees. Posters will remain up for viewing for an extended period during the Conference.

 

Submission Deadline

Posters will be accepted for review through April 18, 2014.
