Terra Design Studios offers a full menu of public garden design and support services, ranging from the expected to the extraordinary. We strive to blend 21st-century garden topics - edible landscapes, artful rainwater, bio-diversity, and "nearby nature" - with well-respected traditional garden design principles. We employ a collaborative design approach, customize our design team to meet your unique goals, and are eager to help start-up and under-appreciated gardens realize their potential. Our most notable commissions include Heartland Harvest Gardens at Powell Gardens; Mordecai Children's Garden at Denver Botanic Gardens; Monticello Sculpture Gardens; Sarah P. Duke Gardens; Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens; and most recently, the master plan for Prairie Garden Trust in New Bloomfield, Missouri and the 900-acre campus for the Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah, Iowa.
Cindy Tyler, principal of Terra Design Studios, has focused her 30-year landscape architecture career on the master planning and design of public gardens and teaching landscapes. She has planned and designed 20 family gardens in 14 states, with the personal goal of inviting the "grown-ups" in a family unit to play and interact with their children at the garden. Cindy’s family garden designs seek to provide caregivers and teachers the tools they need to incorporate unscripted outdoor activities into their children’s daily lives, at home, in daycare, or at school.
