Gardener’s Supply Company

A Company of Gardeners Since 1983

Gardener’s Supply was founded in 1983 by a handful of enthusiastic Vermont gardeners.  Today, we serve millions of gardeners nationwide, offering innovative gardening products, many that we’ve designed and introduced  such as self-watering containers, flower and vegetable supports, organic fertilizers, solar lighting, composters, rain barrels, watering gear and seedstarting kits and much more.
Though our company has grown, we’re 100% employee-owned and we remain passionately committed to providing garden-tested, earth-friendly products that will help our customers have more fun and success in their gardens.

We have many free online tools to help make gardening easier, including a Soil Calculator, Rainfall Calculator and a Kitchen Garden Planner.   The Kitchen Garden Planner offers a selection of 48 plants, a vegetable encyclopedia with specific plant care and harvesting guidance.  There’s a choice of pre-planned gardens or you can design your own.

Gardener’s Supply is now offering a range of our innovative and exclusive gardening products for independent garden centers and retailers.  This new wholesale opportunity is a partnership through IGH, Inc., a distribution partner of Gardener’s Supply.  Previously, these items were only available through our website and catalog.

Our Burlington, Vermont, headquarters are at the edge of a 700-acre floodplain known as "the Intervale".  This "backyard" had a history of cultivation going back to 3000 BC, when Native Americans used the land.

In the mid-80s when Gardener’s Supply first located to the Intervale, it had become a landfill and a neglected piece of property.  The company’s Founder. Will Raap saw the land’s potential, and with employee-owners spent time and energy cleaning it up with more than 1,000 tires and a 350-car illegal junkyard removed.  In 1988, Gardeners’ Supply founded the non-profit Intervale Center and the area has undergone a remarkable transition: from a dumping ground to a city breadbasket, producing more than 500,000 pounds of food each year and a recreational resource with walking and biking trails.  The Intervale is now called the "crown jewel for locavores" and visitors come from across the country and around the world to learn how to create an Intervale in their community.

Gardener’s Supply actively promotes the pleasures and rewards of gardening and donates 8% of profits to help people and organizations improving the world through gardening, whether it’s at their home or in their communities.
