Welkinweir Summer 2014 Internships
We are seeking interns for April through September (flexible start and end dates). Internships are paid and housing is available.
Intern is responsible for the day to day activities required to maintain the formal gardens & arboretum. Activities include watering, pruning, turf maintenance, weeding (includes invasive removal around house), planting and mulching. Other responsibilities may include: preparing for and working with arboretum volunteers; leading garden and house tours to visiting groups; assisting with plant labeling, accessioning, and mapping as time permits.
Natural Lands Internship
Intern is responsible for implementing, in an ecologically sound manner, our Forest Stewardship Plan within the woods, meadows and riparian areas at Welkinweir and offsite at various projects the organization is overseeing. Activities may include invasive plant removal, maintaining trails in the woods and meadows, bird box monitoring, deer enclosure maintenance, and new plant establishment and protection.
Educational and/or field experience in the study of horticulture, forestry, or a related field; demonstrated knowledge of plant identification and maintenance techniques; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to lift 50 pounds; knowledge of and ability to safely operate hand tools and power equipment; must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
