Position Available: Institutional Giving Officer
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
General Summary: Responsible for raising operating and restricted program support for The Morton Arboretum from institutional funding sources. Develop program strategy and serve as a primary liaison for external relations with corporate, foundation, and government donors in coordination with the President & CEO, trustees, and senior staff leadership. Serve as a senior member of the development team. Serve as an advocate for a culture of philanthropy that supports the best interests of the organization as well as the donors.
Bachelor’s degree required. 5+ years with non-profit organization(s) required. Experience in writing compelling and exciting funding proposals, facilitating program and budget development, identifying and pursuing appropriate opportunities, and researching funding sources required. Knowledge of state and federal grant making sources preferred. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and have experience using database systems, with prior experience using Raiser’s Edge software strongly preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license, which is subject to insurability and an annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report.
Ability to successfully motivate, engage and interact with senior leadership, trustees, high level donors and volunteers. Ability to exercise diplomacy and tact in dealing with both internal and external constituents and their requests. Candidate must be highly organized and detail oriented, with the ability to prioritize independently and successfully meet the demands and deadlines of multiple projects. A commitment to, and ability to effectively convey, the Arboretum’s mission with genuine passion, and the willingness to continually learn about the programs and mission.

- Physical Demands: Requires some physical activity: limited lifting and carrying (up to 10 lbs.), and occasional travel around the Arboretum campus and locally.
- Work Environment: Fast-paced office environment. Work is performed in a combined indoor (90%) and outdoor (10%) setting.
- Equipment: General office equipment, Arboretum golf cart.
- Schedule: Position requires occasional extended work hours, including evenings and weekends.
