Senior Director of Horticulture  

Under the global direction of the President/CEO, and part of the Senior Management Team, the Senior Director of Horticulture is responsible for the oversight and direction of the horticulture operations for the garden with emphasis in garden design and creativity.  Develops and implements strategies and initiatives to enhance operational productivity and excellence in garden display.  Ensures that garden maintenance and installations are conducted timely, efficiently and within Arboretum guidelines. Oversees the daily  maintenance of the garden displays, assures accountability in capital and budgetary compliance, and effectively monitors staffing (30+ staff) and work production schedules.   

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong garden design and implementation skills. 
  • Experience in operational planning and management of departmental budgets. 
  • Ability to oversee, direct and motivate a diverse horticultural workforce/structure for successful operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, donors, and volunteers at all levels;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks through effective organizational, time-management, decision-making and problem solving skills;
  • Six+ years progressive experience at the management level in a responsible horticultural entity, i.e. garden, greenhouse production, landscape company, etc. four + years supervisory scheduling experience and documented design experience.
  • Four year degree in horticulture, landscape architecture or relevant field; Post graduate degree in relevant field preferred.
